Jerry Bergonzi is one of the great unsung heroes of jazz tenor players. He is very well known in the jazz world but he should have a much broader audience. I love his dry, dark tone. I really like his gritty altissimo register. He has a total command of his horn along with a formidable technique. He is an author of many books on jazz improvisation. Check out his website here. Your website looks great! Glad to hear you are playing some jazz. I had the great treat of working with Jerry Bergonzi last summer at Jazz Vermont. He is truly an amazing player AND a really great guy. He approaches music from a very spiritual point of view and is one of the most positive people. He is absolutely amazing and yet he has no ego about it at all – he’s very matter of fact and just sees everyone as on a journey, himself included.

I am not real surprised to hear that. He just has that sort of vibe about him. Most of the really great musicians I have met in my life have been real humble and just down to earth. Thanks for your comment, Alastair
